8. FileScan mp3 Manager/Server

The version of mp3FileScan included with QwIRC is a combined mp3 file list manager, filename autoformatter, playlist editor, search engine and queue server.

FileScan/FileQue is a feature rich applet with many features and functionality the discussion of which is beyond the scope of this document. the following section will walk you through the basic setup of the server itself. a in depth-guide to FileScan use and features can be found at: http://www.numatrix.com/software/filescan/features.html

click the FileScan icon to start FileScan.

8.1 generate mp3 file list
click the mp3 Directory Chooser icon (yellow folder). click the 'Add' button and browse for your top-level mp3 directory. sub-directories are automatically included. you may specify more than one top-level mp3 directories just so long as they aren't parents or children of oneanother. click 'OK' and FileScan will build your filelist and display it in the main FileScan window. you may use this list window to search for files in your own private list, drag them to your mp3 player, rename, or delete them.

8.2 activate mp3 server
click the fileQue icon (big Q) to access the fileserver portion of FileScan. click the fileQue options button (open hand-shaped icon) to access the main server options. click the accept !nick file requests checkbox to activate the server. select the number of outgoing send slots you wish to run on your sever, and the channel names of the channels you wish to serve in. Click Apply then Done.

in this window you will see displayed search results as processed by your own local search engine in response to remote users @find and @locator requests, as well as any other automated responses to server requests and channel ads generated by your fileserver. fileQue will also display a complete list of outgoing send slots and queue entries as remote users request files from your server.

8.3 make the fileserver auto-load when you start QwIRC
go to file->Options, click the Startup Tab and click 'Start mp3 FileScan / FileQue control' under the OnStartup section.

note: if you don't do this you can still start the sever manually by clicking the FileScan icon after you startup QwIRC. QwIRC will not respond to file requests unless the FileScan / FileQue control has been started.
