QwIRC - online manual
|
6. Joining Channels 6.1 using the Channel Browser when you have successfully connected to an IRC server, qwIRC will display the channel browser. hit 'scan' to retrieve a list of all channels on the network. after you have retrieved the entire list you may search for specific channels by entering a search pattern in the find window and hitting the find button (binocular tool). the star button will return you to the full list. some networks such as ircnet and efnet do now allow channel directory listings and this feature will not work on those networks. you will have to specify channels you wish to connect to by name, such as #help #chat, etc... obtaining complete channel lists can be very very time consuming and causes extreme lag for the servers. there are 2 unique features that QwIRC offers to help to alleviate this problem. QwIRC has the ability to cancel long channel queries mid-stream on networks such as DALnet. not all networks support this feature either. some networks such as DALnet allow you to do partial network channel scans using a search pattern. this typically results in faster searches. simply enter your search pattern in the find window and hit 'scan'. only the matching channels will appear in the search results. you can then further filter the results without reloading the list, using the binocular tool. QwIRC will automatically remember which channels you join and automatically re-connect you to all open channels next time your start qwIRC. keep in mind that QwIRC by default will always show the Channel Browser upon connection. Go to File->Options and click the Startup Tab, then un-check 'OnConnect-->Show Channel Finder' in order to disable this feature. 6.2 using the /join command you can also join channels using the standard IRC /join command from any window. |
